  • Dock Sawyer
    General Manager
    252-473-2141 Ext. 210

As the grandson of the original owner of this dealership, Roland Dock Sawyer Sr., I've been working here unofficially since I was just a teenager. Officially, I started working here in 1986 after I returned to the Outer Banks from a six-year vacation -- working as a music education teacher in Yanceyville, N.C. While my title is General Manager, I'm pretty much a jack-of-all-trades here. Don't be surprised to see me washing cars, mowing the grass, planting flowers, or helping customers. At the end of the day, my grandfather's name is still on the front of this building, so doing business in a way that would make him proud is what motivates me to put people first. Remember, Ford isn't just the brand, it stands for "Friend of R.D." And that's what you get when you shop here. Right on!

My father, Roland D. Sawyer Sr., started this business more than 60 years ago. In 1985, we moved the dealership from across the street in the building that now houses Manteo Marine to our current location. "Pop," as he was known by his family, passed away in 1989. My brother, R.D., and I took over the business in the late 1970s. Then Dock joined us in 1986. RD passed away in 2016.

Our business has always believed in treating customers like family and we have made every effort to stay true to the values we learned from my father. Whether you are here for service or to buy a vehicle, we want you to leave as a happy customer.

    Operations Manager
    252.473.2141 Ext. 235

After 25 years of teaching high school journalism, I retired and joined my husband, Dock, in the family business in 2015.  While my primary responsibility is taking care of all things Internet-related, my role here is more of a gap-filler than anything else.  From sales to service, I'm always ready to help our customers and our employees in any way possible.  If you have a concern or a problem and you're not sure who to call, then you should probably call me.  While I may not be able to answer every question or fix every situation, I promise I will do my best to help you.

As a local resident of the Outer Banks for 27 years, it is both an honor and privilege to be a member of the RD Sawyer Ford family. Being a part of something bigger than myself has always been important to me.  And I know that it is by grace that I am in this position, surrounded by and embraced by members of the RD Sawyer family who have been strategically placed in their roles here and in my life.

My journey here at  RD Sawyer Ford commenced May 2018. In the time that I have been here, I have observed closely the values, standards, morals, and history that are found in the fiber of this dealership. And I appreciate being brought aboard the RD Sawyer train as we diligently strive to serve others the way we would treat a loving friend. It is our goal to provide customers with quality automobiles, putting forth the extra effort to provide a stress-free experience in a family environment.

I learned a lot when I was on the other side of the desk as a customer.  As a result, I'm more than willing to share my testimony with others and provide them with the information they need to make the most beneficial decisions as we work together to meet their automotive needs.

I treat others the way I would like to be treated. And I promise, if I don't know something, I will be honest about it. Then, I will be sure to find an answer and provide you with the appropriate information to meet your needs or concerns.

Stop by and introduce yourself, even if you're not presently in the market for an automobile.  And stay blessed!

I was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina.  Upon graduating from high school, I did a tour in the US Coast Guard.  After my tour, I graduated from the Marine Mechanics Institute and landed a job here on the Outer Banks. That was short-lived and the next thing I knew, I was working here at RD Sawyer Motor Company in the service department.  Eventually, I moved over to the sales side, but decided to leave the area in 2014 for a change of scenery. Fast forward to 2020, and I'm back "home" at RD Sawyer, bringing with me a wealth of experience from selling Fords at a dealership in Michigan, marketing and installing window treatments, and working in the local food industry.  Along the way, I also found the love of my life and have been married for almost a year.  As an Eagle Scout, I try to live by the 12 principles of the Boy Scout Law that include being trustworthy, courteous, and kind.  In other words, you can trust me to be friendly and helpful during your experience here at R.D. Sawyer Ford!
